Google project is now done, more in the future?

This project has been very interesting and beneficial to me! I had not realized how hard composing is without piano skills, so along the way I learned some knowledge of how the cords and harmonization should sound with each other. After learning basic and essential skills, my group and I worked together to fit the piece to our instruments, while still having it sound good. A feat that I never thought would be so difficult! After accomplishing our goal, I feel very proud of the piece that we have created as well as feeling a new found respect for all composers. Writing three parts was hard, imagining composing for a whole band would be extremely difficult! I would love to do this project again, especially since my group has already started brainstorming other ideas. :) If I had the skills for it, I would continue composing but that may be my next project, learning piano and more about music theory!
I will miss this google project,

Mission Accomplished

Well, our google project was finished and presented and now I feel... melancholy. With this project I hoped to learn about music composition/ arrangement and that is exactly what I got out of it. I thoroughly enjoyed the process of this project in which we were given this immense opportunity to use our time to the fullest.  Quite often I think of learning an instrument or writing a song but I never have the time OR the motivation but this project forced me to put time into it. I would most DEFINITELY want to do this project again as I feel incredibly enriched after finishing. In conclusion, this project is greatly beneficial and should be repeated!

GAH! Almost Done!

I also forgot to post after our work party last weekend. In it we finished the minor details in our score to tweak the song to near perfection! As one of my partners said we are in two different bands; I am in the 2nd band while the other two are in a different one. I believe the day I will be presenting on is Thursday of this week and I'm hoping it will go fantastically!

Last time!

last google day for the semester :( Our project has made me more knowledgeable in the art of composing, it is very difficult!
I forgot to post after my group worked on our project last Saturday. We practiced our piece together, and proved it sounded amazing! However, due to the different classes that my group is spread across, our presentation will be played by the program. Wish we could have played it live!
the project is done and successful!!

YAY FINISHMENT!

We've finished our project! (the word finishment is not a typo). We're so excited to preform our project for the class. I hope everything goes well!

Productive day with top ramen!!

Today we miraculously finished our score!! YAY!! We now need to make some more edits but the basic body for all three parts is there. thank goodness! it took some great teamwork and I now have a much greater appreciation for those who do this for a living. After finishing our score, we promised ourselves some nice top ramen. what a great celebrating food!

FINISHED!

We've finally finished our project!!! The rough draft of our music score is finished!!! I'm so excited to get down and fix all the litlte spots soon!

YAY its a google day!!

During today's productive google day our group managed to switch over our score to finale! Finale is proving to be an amazing program with a much better interface. All of our old score is now on this, plus some progress was made toward our end piece!
Loving the new program,
-Julia

FINALE!!!

So we've finally switched to another programme that will help us better compose music. The programme is much easier to use and will help us get our project done faster and in a more complete way

MORE NOTES!

The programme we've been using to compose, is extremely difficult. In an effort to add triplets to our peice (a feature the site lacked) we changed the key signature in one section to 6/8 time, which effectively messed up the rest of our music. We may instead start using finale which, hopefully, will be easier to use.

Another google day, YAY!!

Things are looking up today! harmonizing, transposing, and compiling all went well. My clarinet part is turning out to be a great contrast to the active flute lines. Our piece is really coming along, I can't wait to perform it!

New Score

Today was the day I most feared, the day where I would realize that my preveous time signature was incorrect. Due to the nature of the program we were using, we had to switch everything to 4/4 manually. Which was lovely (sarcasm). However, we've made some AWESOME progress and are hoping to start harmony very, very soon.

Great Class Time!

The second official google project day was today and so much was accomplished! first song is done, but the program we have been using to write the music is starting to get annoying. We may need to find a different way to record the piece so far. Attempts at harmonizing and matching parts were rather difficult but we did it!

So much accomplished!

Today Julia Alice and I worked on our begining lines of our arrangement. We found a program that lets you write out the music and then lets you listen to the music you wrote out. Very cool! So now that we've started, we hope to continue to improve!

-Allegra

Attempt at writing it out

Today the forces of our group gathered and attempted to start on our song. Since we are stubborn, we refuse to use already written peices and spent lots of time today singing the Harry Potter theme song and guessing notes. Not too difficult, but other songs may be trickier to write out. However, the first flute solo is done!! Yay!!

On the Lookout

I've been searching for, and listening to, some of the music from the Harry Potter movies. SmartMusic has some and I really like "Professor Umbridge" and "Longbottom Flies". I want to incorporate at least one into our compilation.
